In order to increase the bed capacity following increase number of COVID-19 positive patients, the state government has decided to set up three more corona care centres in Shillong city to meet the demand.
“We have decided to again generate more rooms or to ramp up the bed capacity in and around Shillong in view of the pressure due to the surge in the COVID-19 cases,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters after a daily review meeting held on Tuesday.
He said the health department accordingly today has inspected three places which include ITI office building at Rynjah, BTC new building at Malki and Directorate of Commerce & Industries at Nongrim Hills.
“After due deliberation, we have decided to set up corona care centres in these three places for generation of additional beds,” Tynsong said while informing that the capacity of the three corona care centres will be 150 beds and they will be made functional at the earliest possible.
Meanwhile, the state government has also decided to create more beds at the communitiy health centre (CHC) and primary health centre (PHC) level throughout the state.
Tynsong said there is need to have corona care centre up to the level of CHC and PHC of at least 20 beds each.
“This model will be useful for those people staying in various villages under the jurisdiction of the different CHCs and PHCs,” he said.
“This model was discussed and we have asked the health department to workout the plan and come back to the government within 48 hours,”he informed.
