Govt to soon decide on reopening of schools, colleges
The state government will soon take a call for reopening of educational institutions in the state.
“The issue will be taken up in the next few days…,” Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Health & Family Welfare department Prestone Tynsong told reporters after the review meeting held on Monday.
He said the government has asked the education department to give a presentation on the modalities for opening up of schools, colleges and universities in the state.
When asked, Tynsong said that the government also wanted to bring back normalcy at the earliest possible.
“The government is really concerned about this issue especially if you talk about the livelihoods of the people. However, taking into the consideration the alarming increase of the positivity which is still very grim, we cannot take decisions in one go but step by step as we watch and observe the situation,” he added.
The deputy chief minister also reiterated the importance for the citizens to get vaccinated so that normalcy can be restored.
“The only way to protect ourselves (from COVID-19) is through vaccination. The state however has registered only 46 percent as of today. Therefore, we still have a long way to go,” he said.
