Govt to take up with Centre for declaring NEIGRIHMS as institute of National importance: Ampareen
Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday said the government will take up with the Centre for declaring the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) as an Institute of National Importance (INI).
Lyngdoh said that she would take up the issue during her meeting with the Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare in New Delhi next week.
“The first thing we want to take up before the purview of the health minister, government of India is to discuss the matters relating to NEIGRIHMS. The very fact that NEIGRIHMS continues to have a status not like a national institute like All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and others so we wanted that to get sorted out,” she said.
Lyngdoh added, “We also want a fast track and operationalization of the cancer hospital adjacent to the NEIGRIHMS hospital in the same campus.”
“This is a very important project so we would like to bring it to the attention of the health minister,” she said.
Asked, Lyngdoh said, “We are going to pursue this with the new government, with the hope that we will be given a patient hearing.”
She informed that she had requested the officials of the department to ensure Director NEIGRIHMS to also join her during the meeting with the union health minister.
