Govt trying to address issue of power cuts
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday said the government is trying to address the issue of power cuts at the earliest.
“We have worked around even for the timings of the loadshedding to be changed and those have been changed as far as possible. It is a concern and we are trying to address the issue at the earliest,” Sangma told reporters.
Citing the reasons for the state’s decision to impose load shedding, he said that at least five units are not working which normally never happens.
“As I mentioned earlier that there are three units at the national level which are not functioning, this has impacted all NE states and it is not that Meghalaya alone is facing this challenge. Due to this, 120 to 140 megawatts of power has been impacted,” Sangma said.
He informed that repair of two units at Leshka and Umiam – are going on.
“Therefore, it is a complicated situation. It is not just the state of Meghalaya as many states of the NE are affected by this. I am hopeful that a few of them will start to function in a few weeks it will take and we expect things to improve and we are doing our best to ensure that minimum inconveniences are caused,” the CM stated.
