Guwahati Jal Board to provide 95,858 new water connections
The Guwahati Jal Board (GJB) has announced the opening of applications for 95,858 new domestic drinking water connections in the South Central Guwahati sector under the JICA-assisted Guwahati Water Supply Project. This initiative aims to ensure clean and reliable drinking water for the city’s residents.
The project aims to connect 110,000 domestic service meters. So far, 14,142 house service connections, benefiting 28,492 households, have been provided across 53 District Metering Areas (DMAs).
Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Ashok Singhal, has urged residents to take advantage of the initiative. Applications can be submitted via the Guwahati Jal Board mobile app (GJB APP), making the process convenient and user-friendly.
To minimize inconvenience, the Guwahati Jal Board has streamlined operations by ensuring road excavations for water connections are carried out only once, reducing disruptions.
Singhal appealed to citizens to cooperate with the department in facilitating the seamless installation of clean tap water connections and road restoration works.
In a significant move to support below poverty line (BPL) families, the Guwahati Jal Board in Association with Guwahati Municipal Corporation, is offering subsidized water connections for up to ₹7,000 to eligible households with valid ration cards. Registration for this scheme is currently ongoing.
Singhal encouraged residents to contact the Guwahati Jal Board through its mobile application (GJB APP from Google Play Store) or dedicated helpline (60039 20846/6002478263) for further details and to avail of these benefits.
