Guwahati RMC marks women’s day with fitness, knowledge & empowerment

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Guwahati celebrated International Women’s Day 2025 with an energetic and inspiring five-day event, focusing on health, fitness, and the empowerment of women in science.
The celebration was inaugurated on March 3 by K.N. Mohan, Head of RMC Guwahati, who underscored the importance of increasing female representation in scientific fields. Dr. Sanjay O’Neill Shaw, Scientist-F, praised the resilience of women balancing multiple responsibilities while excelling in every domain. Meanwhile, Scientist-F Sunit Das encouraged parents to inspire their daughters to pursue careers in science.
The event was seamlessly anchored by Scientific Assistant Anamika Sarma, ensuring a vibrant and well-organized celebration. Among the highlights were ‘Fit India Pledge’ encouraging a healthy lifestyle, Walkathon & Cycle Rally promoting fitness, Yoga, Meditation, Zumba & Aerobics sessions for mental and physical well-being and Special Lectures on women’s health, diet, and mental wellness.
On March 6, two insightful talks took centre stage. Dr. Mythili Hazarika, HoD, Clinical Psychology, GMCH, discussed the dangers of excessive multitasking in modern life and the need for mental balance.
Dr. Manisha Choudhury, Assistant Professor, Assam Agricultural University, emphasized the role of nutrient-rich food in maintaining a healthy body.
Dr. Gayatry Kalita, Scientist-D, led several key activities, while the dedication of officials like Reeta Brahma Gayary, Doli Haloi, Chinmoyee Gogoi, Sayani Hossain, Sandipa Bhattacharya, Neha Tomar, Anjali Singh Chaudhary, Madhushree Bairagi, Pranita Koch, and Rumi Baruah contributed to the grand success of the event.
With an inspiring blend of science, fitness, and self-care, this year’s Women’s Day celebration at RMC Guwahati left a lasting impact—paving the way for more women to thrive in the field of science and beyond!
