HANM to stage protest in New Delhi over Centre’s delay to implement ILP, inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages
The Hynniewtrep Achik Awakening Movement (HANM) on Friday announced its decision to stage a protest at the national capital to pressurize the Centre for immediate implementation of the inner line permit (ILP) and inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
Addressing media persons, HANM president Lamphrang Kharbani said that the Delhi police has granted permission to the organization for staging the demonstration at Jantar Mantar on February 25, next year.
He informed that during their visit to Delhi, the delegation of the HANM had met the MP of Rajya Sabha Rakhesh Sinha, who is also BJP in charge of North East and handed over a copy of the petition submitted to the President of India, Prime Minister, Minister of State for Home Affairs with regard to the demand for implementation of ILP in Meghalaya and for inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
He added that the MP had assured the delegation to discuss the demands within the committee of the central government. “The MP had promised to come to Meghalaya to discuss the issues in detail,” he said.
