Harmeet Singh takes charge as in-charge DGP as GP Singh receives grand farewell
Harmeet Singh, an IPS officer of 1992 batch, officially assumed the role of in-charge Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam from Gyanendra Pratap Singh at the Assam Police headquarters in Ulubari on Wednesday.
Additionally, Harmeet Singh will continue holding multiple key positions, including Director General of Home Guards and Commandant General of Civil Defence, Special DGP (Headquarters), Special DGP & Director, Fire and Emergency Services, and Special DGP (Border).
Having served as DGP of Assam since February 1, 2023, GP Singh has now been appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He was honoured with a grand farewell at a function held at the 4th APBN headquarters in Kahilipara on Wednesday morning.
In his farewell address, GP Singh extended his gratitude to all police officials for their unwavering support during his tenure. He also acknowledged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his continued efforts in strengthening the Assam Police and expressed confidence in the force’s bright future.
“The dedication and commitment of Assam Police personnel have earned national recognition,” Singh remarked, urging officers to prioritize their health and uphold their service with integrity.
GP Singh paid homage to the martyrs of the police force at the Swahid Bedi and expressed heartfelt thanks to his colleagues. “Your sincerity, dedication, and teamwork have shaped my tenure. Assam Police will continue to stand strong with integrity and commitment,” he stated.
New in-charge DGP Harmeet Singh commended GP Singh’s contributions to the force, highlighting his efforts in enhancing operational efficiency through strategic promotions, professional development, and infrastructure advancements.
“Under GP Singh’s leadership, the Assam Police made significant strides. His guidance will remain invaluable as we work towards further strengthening the force,” Harmeet Singh noted.
Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya bid farewell to GP Singh at Raj Bhavan, Guwahati, extending his best wishes.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the DGP’s official residence to personally extend his best wishes to GP Singh and his family. He lauded Singh’s contributions to law enforcement and encouraged him to continue serving in the national interest.
