Heavy rainfall expected across Meghalaya from August 21 to 25; IMD issues red alert
A significant weather alert has been issued for Meghalaya, predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall from August 21 to 25.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area currently persists over north Bangladesh and nearby regions, accompanied by a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. This system is expected to move westwards across West Bengal over the next 48 hours, intensifying rainfall in the region.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Sri Ganganagar, Churu, Gwalior, Satna, and Ranchi, connecting to the low-pressure area over north Bangladesh. Under its influence, Meghalaya will experience widespread rain along with thunderstorms and lightning during the forecast period.
