Heavy rains in Meghalaya and Northeast states may cause landslides and floods
According to the National Weather Forecasting Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there will be isolated heavy to very heavy rainfalls over Meghalaya, Assam, and other Northeastern states. It may cause landslides and inundation of low lying areas at isolated places over south Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram.
A weather warning for April 1st with thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) are very likely over east Assam and Meghalaya, as per India Meteorological Department (IMD).
On a 2 day regional forecast, Meghalaya will see fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, hailstorms, and thunder lightning in isolated locations from March 31st to April 1st, with the most activity on March 31st.
IMD also stated that a low-pressure area has formed over the same region as a result of the cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining south Andaman Sea. The associated cyclonic circulation reaches a height of 5.8 km above mean sea level. During the next 24 hours, it is likely to become more noticeable over the North Andaman Sea and its surroundings.
