Hek hails party’s decision to oust Ernest Mawrie as state president
BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek on Tuesday hailed the central leadership’s decision to appoint senior member Rikman Momin as new state president of the party.
“Our party has taken the right decision by appointing the new state president. Rikman G Momin is a very old party worker and state leader of the BJP. He had (unsuccessfully) contested as MP candidate from Tura parliamentary constituency in 2019 and also was holding as national council member of the BJP for the last two and a half years. He is very deserving to be the state president of the BJP in Meghalaya,” Hek told reporters.
Sources within the party have alleged that receiving too many complaints against the former state president Ernest Mawrie was one of the reasons behind the change of guard decision in the state.
The decision had also come days after the former BJP spokesperson Himalaya M Shangpliang had quit the party and joined ruling NPP after accusing Mawrie of indulging in nepotism.
Hek however denied the allegations and said there are no other reasons except that the decision was long overdue and it was the right time to appoint a new state president.
The minister further claimed that the decision has absolutely nothing to do with the resignation of any member. He said, “It is purely timing and also it is long overdue to have the new president of the BJP in the state of Meghalaya. I reiterated that it has nothing to do with the resignation of any member of the BJP.”
