Hek launches hand-sanitizers produced by Pasteur Institute
Health Minister AL Hek on Monday launched the alcohol based hand sanitizers produced by the manufacturing unit of the Pasteur Institute, Shillong to cater to the need of the health workers involved in combating against the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Addressing media after the launching programme, Hek informed that the manufacturing unit introduced by the Directorate of Health Services (Research) can produce up-to 1,000 to 1,200 litres of hand sanitizers per day.
“The unit can be a game changer,” he said while referring to the high demand for hand sanitizers in the state due to the present crisis.
The unit has its approval from Senior Inspector of Drugs, Licensing & Controlling Authority, Meghalaya. A separate statement issued by the institute stated that the production of hand sanitizers will cater to the needs of healthcare workers and general public respectively.
It said that the unit is following the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended formulation adding the hand sanitizer is alcohol-based containing 99.8 percent and Isopropyl alcohol as an active ingredient in the product.
Meanwhile, the health minister also informed that Ganesh Das Government Maternal and Child Health Hospital has also set up isolation ward with a capacity of 10 beds for handling suspected and category A & B COVID-19 cases.
Hek also lauded the Ganesh Das hospital for not hesitating to treat pregnant mothers, who have been referred there by Bethany Hospital.
