Helpme Mohrmen is now Dr. Mohrmen
Renowned columnist from Jaintia Hills region and Pastor of the Unitarian Church of India Rev Hamkhein Helpme Mohrmen achieved another milestones on Saturday as he was conferred with an PhD title by the Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong.
Rev Mohrmen attained his doctorate degree on completion of his thesis entitled ‘Cultural history of Jaiñtia in stories, stones and traditions’ under the supervision of Prof Glenn Kharkongor and Dr Fabian Lyngdoh as co-supervisor of the Department of Cultural Studies.
Born to late Hamkhein Pariat and late Ïaineh Mohrmen of Ïawmusiang, Jowai, Rev Mohrmen passed his matriculation examination from Jowai Government High School and BA from Kiang Nangbah Government College. He decided to become a pastor so he completed Certificate Course in Ministry from Unitarian College, Manchester, United Kingdom and MA in Christian studies from Madras University.
He is married to Neinihiwot Passah and has three grown up children.
After struggling for ten years, Mohrmen completed his PhD. He is a man of a strong determination and his consistency make him successful in his career.
His journey to attain his PhD started in 2010 when he registered himself but he was rejected and dropped but this didn’t deterred him and in 2017 he registered again and he was shortlisted. He defend his thesis on October 20, 2021.
Helpme in his young age was a teacher in Puriang Village, East Khasi Hills District. For Thirty years now he served his church and at the same time pursue his PhD beside he write so many article in main stream media and digital media.
“I would like to express my deepest appreciation to God the Almighty for His blessing in my life. I would extend my gratitude to my parents and relatives, my father in law Promiwell Lyngdoh and HL Giri who have trusted and supported me for ten years to achieved my dreams,” said Dr. Hamkhein Helpme Mohrmen.
