Heroin, ganja seized by EKH police
SHILLONG: Four persons were arrested along with huge cache of contraband seized from their possession in two separate anti-drug operations launched by the police.
Acting on inputs that one Maruti DZire car bearing registration number ML 05J 5886 is suspected to be carrying drugs is roaming around Mawlai, the Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) of East Khasi Hills District immediately conducted a naka and intercepted the car.
Two persons identified as Richard Wahlang and John Fiscal Lyngkhoi were arrested and 10 soap boxes containing the contraband (suspected to be heroin) weighing 109.97 grams was seized from their possession by the police team, SP Claudia A Lyngwa said.
On questioning Wahlang produced the drugs which were kept under the seat on which he was sitting. This entire episode happened in front of two respectable witness of the locality.
The co-accused Lyngkhoi was driving the vehicle and has been partner-in-crime of Wahlang.
The SP said that both the accused are history sheeters and are facing trial in six different cases including murder, kidnapping, Arms Act etc.
Case has been registered under section 21(b) NDPS Act at Mawlai P.S.
In another incident, the team also seized 850 kgs of ganja from a truck NL 01 K 7498 at Mawlyngngad village.
The truck has been detected by local residents of the village in suspicious circumstances, who had already informed the Sohryngkham outpost who in turn informed SP (City), Shillong, then rushed to Sohryngkham.
During questioning, the driver of the truck disclosed that there is one hidden compartment in the truck in which ganja was stashed. The search and seizure of ganja weighing whopping approximately 850 kgs was done as per procedures established under NDPS Act.
Both the accused, driver and helper are being produced before Magistrate and further investigation is on to nab other accused involved, Lyngwa said.
She said it appears to be a big racket as the hidden compartment is welded into the body of truck and it would require only an expert eye to detect.
The SP also thanked the local residents, VDPs and members of NGOs such as KSU and FKJGP for helping Police.
