Heroin worth Rs 2 crore seized from Assam-Nagaland border, 1 arrested
In its continued drive against narcotic drugs, Assam police recovered 294.64 grams of heroin powder worth approximately Rs 2 crore from a car at Khatkhati Janakpukhuri Tri-junction under Khatkhati Police Station along Assam-Nagaland border on Friday.
The driver cum carrier of the contraband identified as Ghookavi Chisi son of Ghonito Chisi, a resident of house number 23 of Nuiland, Nikikhe Dimapur has been arrested in this connection.
The consignment was supposed to be delivered to a person in Guwahati.
“Based on specific information a team of Khatkhati police accompanied by 20 Bn CRPF personnel intercepted a Toyota Urban Cruiser car bearing Regn No NL07CB0290 at Khatkhati Janakpukhuri Tri-junction at around 11.30 am today,” a police official said.
“During the search, 26 plastic identical soap cases filled with brown powder suspected to be heroin powder packed in white transparent polythene packets weighing a total 294.64 grams were recovered and seized,” he said.
“The driver cum carrier of the contraband was arrested. Interrogation is on,” he added.
The movement of drug trafficking through Khatkhati and Laharijan, which have become transit points for drug trafficking from Manipur, has gone down drastically after the clashes erupted between Kukis and Meiteis in Manipur on May 3, 2023.
Till December 2022, the police have seized 41.9 kilograms of heroin, 309676 capsules including Spaxmo Proxybon and WY tablets, 17.3 kilograms of Morphin, 8.28 kilograms of Crystal Syabu, 93.4 kilograms of Opium, 2492 bottles of Codeine cough syrup, 53.84 quintals of Ganja from Bokajan police station area of Karbi Anglong.
A total of 293 people involved with drug trafficking were also arrested till December 2022. But there is no let-up of the situation.
