The High Court of Meghalaya has granted two weeks to the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) for filing an affidavit for the non compliance of its ruling for releasing the salaries of JHADC employees within a period of six months from the month of March 2023.
The order was passed by the High Court during the hearing of the contempt petition between the JHADC Staff Association versus JHADC & Meghalaya Government on February 6, last.
It may be recalled here the JHADC Staff Association filed a contempt of court petition against the JHADC and the Meghalaya Government on December 11, last year. The first hearing was held on December 19 last year.
The High Court of Meghalaya on March 2023 pronounced its judgement in the trial of the writ petition (civil) filed by the JHADC Staff Association versus Meghalaya Govt and JHADC. The judgement directed the Govt to clear all pending dues on royalty to the JHADC within six months while at the same time directed the JHADC to pay the pending salaries of its employees within six months.

The long wait of the six months period by the employees of the JHADC ended in vain in October last year as neither the Govt nor the JHADC materialized the Court’s judgement.
