High Court of Meghalaya ordered an immediate transfer of SP East Jaintia Hills
The High Court of Meghalaya on Tuesday directed the Meghalaya Home Department and the Meghalaya Director General of Police to immediately transfer the Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District and immediately post another competent officer in his place
The Court passed the order during the hearing of PIL No. 2/2022 pertaining to in Re: (Suo motu): Illegal mining of coal in the State of Meghalaya.
The Court observed that the Superintendent of Police as has been informed has been posted in East Jaintia Hills since 2021, and as such should have been alive and well acquainted with what is going on in the district.
“The 19th interim report reflects that the Superintendent of Police is perhaps un-effective in stemming the illegal activities,” the Court said.
The Court has allowed the State to file a reply to the 19th interim report and presently not initiating contempt proceedings.
The Court also cautioned the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District with direction to takes all steps to ensure that the orders of the Court are honoured and that order is maintained.
