Higher education push: Assam Governor backs bold reforms, calls for excellence
Assam’s Higher Education landscape took centre stage at Raj Bhavan on Friday as Education Minister Ranoj Pegu briefed Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on the department’s ongoing projects, policies, and strategic vision for the future.
Expressing satisfaction with the department’s initiatives, Governor Acharya emphasized the need to transform Assam into a premier hub for higher education. He underscored the crucial role of education in shaping a progressive society and urged the department to strengthen the academic ecosystem to attract students from across the country.
Highlighting Assam’s growth in various sectors, the Governor noted that parallel advancements in higher education would be key to human resource development. He also stressed the importance of aligning state policies with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, calling it a revolutionary step that must be implemented in letter and spirit to ensure holistic educational reforms.
Acharya called for innovation-driven strategies and forward-thinking reforms to propel Assam’s education sector to new heights. He urged all stakeholders to commit to quality education and strategic planning, ensuring the state’s intellectual and economic progress.
The briefing was attended by Advisor to Raj Bhavan, Harbansh Dixit, Higher Education Advisor Prof. Debabrata Das, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor SS Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary of Higher Education Narayan Konwar, and other senior officials from the Education Department and Raj Bhavan.
