HITO activists disallowed to visit Assembly
Activists of the Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) on Wednesday were disallowed at the eleventh hour from visiting the state Assembly for witnessing the ongoing autumn session.
Despite obtaining permission and passes to visit the Assembly, the HITO leaders and members were stopped and sent back by the magistrate and police.
The activists were wearing t-shirts with anti-government slogans.
Speaking to media persons, HNYF president Donbok Dkhar said that the action by the district administration was an insult to the people of the state and it also indicated that the state is being ruled by one man who is the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
He also alleged that the present government is not capable of ruling the state.
“Hence they must step down and let a new government be formed by those who can deliver justice to the demand of the people,” Dkhar said.
Asked, Dkhar said the HITO wanted to put forth its demand for justice for the former HNLC leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, to increase the upper age limit for government jobs and discussion on the instrument of accession among other demands of the organization.
