HITO demands filling of 560 vacant posts in West Jaintia Hills, urges fair recruitment processes
The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) Jowai Circle recently met with the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District to address an issue raised under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The RTI inquiry revealed that various departments in the district have 560 vacant posts, which are currently not filled, including positions under the District Selection Committee (DSC) and the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC).
In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, HITO demanded that these vacancies be filled promptly to ensure the efficient functioning of these departments. The organization also requested the state government to ensure that recruitment through DSC and MPSC is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
The memorandum highlighted the need for merit-based exams for candidates applying through the DSC and MPSC and urged the authorities to install video cameras in exam rooms to maintain transparency. HITO further emphasized that key answers should be provided on the exam day itself, ensuring fairness in the recruitment process.
HITO also stressed the importance of expediting the correction of exam papers to provide timely results for candidates, enabling them to know their scores and progress.
A copy of the memorandum was sent to the Chief Minister, the local MLA of Jowai constituency, and the Chief Secretary for further action.
