HITO files complaint against NPP workers for misleading public on PMAY-G scheme
The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has filed a complaint against the National People’s Party (NPP) workers for allegedly misleading the public regarding the PMAY-G scheme and violating the model code of conduct (MCC).
In a letter to the chief electoral officer (CEO) Dr BDR Tiwari on Monday, HITO president Donbok Dkhar said, “(We want) to formally raise a significant concern regarding the National People’s Party (NPP) and its affiliates in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. We have observed a troubling trend of misinformation being disseminated by these party workers about the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme.”
“Reports have come to light indicating that party members have been misleading the community by falsely asserting that the implementation of the PMAY-G scheme necessitates prior approval from local MLAs. This assertion is not only inaccurate but also a gross misunderstanding of the scheme, which is designed to be centrally funded and directed by the Government of India to ensure housing for all in rural areas,” he said while adding “Such misleading information poses a serious risk to public trust and can adversely affect the beneficiaries who are reliant on these government schemes for their housing needs. It is imperative that we uphold the integrity of the electoral process, especially during this critical period, and that the public is provided with accurate and truthful information.”
“Therefore, we earnestly request that your esteemed department investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action against those individuals engaged in spreading this misinformation. Your intervention is crucial in maintaining the sanctity of the electoral process and safeguarding the rights of the citizens of Meghalaya,” Dkhar stated in the letter.
