HITO shoots open letter to Meghalaya CM over alleged COVID-19 protocol violation
The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) on Thursday shot an open letter to the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma alleging him of violating the COVID-19 protocols.
“We are disappointed (to) see that random flaunting of COVID-19 protocols not only by the ministers but also by the chief minister on various occasions across the state. It is sad and disgusting to see that the protocols were violated by those responsible for drafting them,” HITO president Donbok Dkhar said in the letter.
Stating that the district administration are imposing fines on the public for violating the protocols, Dkhar however said they are yet to hear fines imposed upon those running the government.

“We urge the district administration to take action against them too,” he said while reminding that law is for everyone and no one is above it.
Referring to media reports about projects being inaugurated by the chief minister, the HITO leader said, “He (CM) is…violating the laid down protocols dated January 3, 2022 issued by the Chief Secretary and therefore, we strongly feel he should be prosecuted for attempt to murder.”
He further alleged that recently on January 14, the CM also inaugurated two healthcare centers – Community Health Centre (CHC) at Bhaitbari and Public Health Centre (PHC) at Chibinang.

“Just for his political mileage he is not only playing with the life of the public but through his function he is helping in spreading the Covid -19 virus,” he added.
Dkhar also pointed out that recently the central government has warned the state government in connection with the spreading of a new variant of Covid-19 in the state.
“But unfortunately even then the Chief Minister without any valid reasons attended the Republic Day Celebration at Polo ground and in the process we believe that he is helping in the spread of Covid 19 in and around the Republic Day function premises,” he said.
“The chief minister who is very much well versed with the protocols laid down by his own government yet for his political mileage he inaugurated number of projects wherein he has claimed to give better health facilities for the public, while violating Covid-19 protocols. It is more suppressing that Government machinery is forcing to comply with the Covid -19 protocols, but the same machinery failed to take action against its own Chief Minister for intentionally violating the Covid-19 protocol,” Dkhar stated.
