HNLC asks BJP minister to convey its message of peace to PM
The banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has termed the BJP minister AL Hek’s offer for peace initiatives as a door of opportunity to build bridges with the government of India.
“The HNLC appreciates the stand taken by the BJP state unit under the leadership of AL Hek to give peace a chance. After decades of fake promises from politicians, we are now pleased to know that AL Hek has taken full responsibility to carry forward the peace initiatives with the Prime minister and Union Home minister including the other leaders of the NDA government,” the outfit’s general secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in a statement issued on Thursday.
Nongtraw also expressed hope for a positive outcome from this initiative which according to him will enable the outfit to build bridges with the government of India.
“We believe that it is high time for us to lay aside our prejudices and biases, to be able to find a common ground for peace to flourish. While it is long overdue, we believe that opening and sustaining the space for a dialogue and consensus building will lead to the peaceful resolution of the age old conflict that has been going for the last three decades or more,” he said.
The HNLC leader said that Hek has opened the door of opportunity that will pave way for the outfit to express its willingness to come forward for peace talks adding this step would surely create a conducive atmosphere to take things forward to the negotiating table.
“We respect the gestures of Hek and we also assure him that we shall work with sincerity along with our mind, our dedication and our honesty to build bridges rather than walls,” Nongtraw said while adding that outfit’s objective of peace is about resolving conflict without violence.
“We give him the full liberty to go ahead with his proposal and carry forward our message of Peace to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the other NDA leaders,” he stated.
It may be mentioned here that Hek on Tuesday had expressed that he was ready to seek the Centre’s intervention for initiating peace talks with the HNLC.
