HNLC denied demanding Rs 13 Cr from coke factory, issues threat against complainant
The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on Saturday categorically denied the allegation that the outfit had demanded Rs 13 crore from a coke factory in Shallang, West Khasi Hills District.
“It is purely illogical to demand for 13 crores of rupees from a factory that is worth just a few lakhs. The police should produce the demand note instead and make it public,” HNLC general secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in a statement issued here.
Alleging that the police had fabricated a story to mislead the public and the media, Nongtraw said, “ It is against our policy to make financial demands without a letter head sealed and signed by the finance secretary.”
He further accused that the police is desperate to divert attention from the “Benami” transaction which they have mastered by coloring the entire episode as an act of extortion.
“The sim card number given seems to be planted by the police in order to support the complainant.
The person Dharmu (who had filed the FIR) has been under our scanner for long, due to his activities in and around Shallang area with the support of local MLA Gigur Myrthong,” he said.
“Now if the factory belongs to Robert Sohbar then why would Dharambir Bansal file a complaint? Who is Dharambir Bansal? And what is his connection with Robert Sohbar? Can the police throw some light into this episode,” he said.
Nongtraw said the HNLC has also issued a death penalty for Dharambir Bansal due to his illegal activities in Shallang.
“This goes out to all the non-tribal businessmen working in tandem with our locals also. They are warn not to exploit our people and our resources. This in itself is a case of manipulation well known by the police and Dharambir Bansal,” he said while claiming that the HNLC is financially stable and have enough number of financial subscribers.
He also questioned that if this is a case of extortion then why didn’t anybody file a complaint in Jaintia hills coke factory. Earlier the HNLC had claimed responsibility behind the IED explosion in the coke factory in Shallang.
