HNYF asks pol parties to oppose CAB
SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) has urged the political parties including the district councils not to seek exemption from the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) but to directly oppose the proposed legalization of influx to Meghalaya and other North East states.
“CAB is not going to be a law dealing with subject like land, forest, movement of goods, which can be exempted but it is a law about citizenship who are humans,” HNYF said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
The HNYF also appeal to the people of North East to not fall into the trap of the Indian Government which says that the implications of the CAB will not affect certain North Eastern States which have the provisions of the Inner line Permit.
According to the organization, the CAB, if passed, will be a law dealing with citizenship and citizens with all the implications of fundamental rights as provided in the constitution and that includes the Fundamental Rights to Equality and the freedom to move freely throughout the territory of India, the Fundamental Rights to contest elections and to vote, this is the totality of becoming and being the citizens of any countries of the world, including India.
“No countries of the world can discriminate against its citizens on civil and political rights. This means that if CAB is passed all foreigners who seeks Indian citizenship under this proposed law will have to become Indian citizens in all its constitutional intent and purpose,” it said.
