Hold MTET exam annually: Aldo A Sangma
Aldo A Sangma, chairman of Garo Hills Cotton, Jute, Ginger, Betelnut, Cashewnut etc Grower Association, Trade Regulation, GHADC, Tura has urged the state government to annually conduct the Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test (MTET).
In a letter to the education minister Rakkam A Sangma on Thursday, Aldo said the MTET has become a crucial requirement for anyone aspiring to enter the teaching profession in our state, including those applying for positions in both government and non-government schools.
Currently, the infrequent administration of the MTET can create significant obstacles for prospective teachers.
Many qualified candidates are unable to secure teaching positions due to the limited availability of examination opportunities. This shortage of exam dates can result in missed opportunities and, in some cases, a delay in the ability of candidates to begin their careers in education.
“Given the growing demand for qualified educators and the increasing number of aspiring teachers, it is imperative that the MTET be held on an annual basis,” he said.
“Regular examinations would ensure that qualified candidates are able to meet the necessary requirements in a timely manner, thereby avoiding potential disruptions in their career progression and contributing positively to the educational landscape of Meghalaya. I kindly urge you to consider this request for the benefit of all prospective teachers and to facilitate a more streamlined process for entering the teaching profession,” Aldo added.
