HSPDP not keen to contest GHADC polls
Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) is not keen in contesting the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), slated to be held on April 9.
“As of now, we have no plans to contest the GHADC polls,” HSPDP leader and cabinet minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar told reporters on Friday.
He however said that the party may consider if there are requests for party tickets from aspiring candidates.
“As political party, if we get a good offer and if winnable candidates come and ask for the ticket I think that overnight also will have a meeting to think and consider,” Tongkhar said.
Meanwhile, the HSPDP leader said that the party is yet to discuss the bye-election to the Mawryngkneng seat, which was recently declared vacant after the death of Congress legislator, David A Nongrum on February 2.
“We will wait for the time. One-two months before the elections, we will think and see but as of now I have no comments,” he stated.
