HSPDP opposes implementation of UCC, railways
The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Friday expressed strong opposition against any attempt by the Centre to implement the uniform civil code (UCC) in the state of Meghalaya.
Speaking to reporters, Pangniang said, “We have discussed at length the purpose and the intention of the government of India to implement the UCC in the country during the CEC meeting of the party. As a party, we have decided to oppose the implementation of the UCC in the state of Meghalaya.”
Pangniang also informed that the party has decided to remind the state government on the demand for implementation of the inner line permit (ILP) and inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
“We will remind the government of the day on the need to take a follow up step in this regard. We have entrusted our minister to take up the matter with the government,” he said.
Meanwhile, the HSPDP has maintained a firm stand against bringing railway lines without anti-influx mechanisms in place.
