Huge cache of arms, ammunition seized in Manipur amid security crackdown
In a major counter-insurgency operation, security forces in Manipur have seized a huge cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives across multiple districts, dealing a significant blow to unlawful elements in the region.
The Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police, in a series of joint operations, recovered 10 weapons, grenades, mortars, and a large quantity of ammunition from strategic locations in Kakching, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Thoubal districts.
On January 26 (Kangpokpi District), Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered a 5.56mm rifle, a 7.62mm rifle, a modified .303 Sniper Rifle, grenades, improvised mortars, and ammunition from Nepali Basti and Veitum Khullen-Khoken village road.
On January 26 (Thoubal District), a cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibanganba) was apprehended with ammunition in Waithou.
On January 28 (Churachandpur District), the Army, CRPF, and Manipur Police recovered six long-range rockets (5-6 feet long), a launcher stand, and a country-made mortar between Loilamkot and Nalon villages.
On January 30 (Kakching District), the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police seized a 9mm rifle, a 9mm pistol, two grenades, and more war-like stores from Chairel Khunou.
Lt Col Amit Shukla, Defence spokesperson, stated that specific intelligence inputs guided these operations, reinforcing seamless cooperation between security forces. “These recoveries highlight the unwavering commitment of our forces in ensuring peace and security in Manipur,” he added.
All recovered weapons and the apprehended insurgent have been handed over to Manipur Police, as security forces continue their relentless crackdown on insurgent activities.
