Huge cache of arms, war-like stores recovered in Manipur
In a series of joint operations by the Indian Army, 42 weapons, ammunition and other war-like stores have been recovered from hill and valley regions of Manipur in the districts of Imphal West, Chandel, Thoubal, Kangpokpi and Churcahandpur on Sunday.
Defence spokesperson Lt Col Amit Shukla said the operations have been conducted, on specific information, in coordination with Manipur police and other security agencies in last few days.
On December 30, the Army recovered a Carbine Machine Gun (CMG), a modified .303 rifle, two pistols, three single-barrel rifles, grenades, ammunition and other war-like stores in a joint search operation with Assam Rifles, CRPF and Manipur Police in the Konchak area of Imphal West district.
Also, a M-16 rifle, three Lathods, seven Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), ammunition and other war-like stores were recovered in a joint operation by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in the general area between Thingphai & TS Laijang village in Chandel district on 31 Dec 2024.
In Churachandpur district, Indian Army, SSB and Manipur Police recovered a SLR rifle, a .303 rifle (modified), two automatic pistols, one single-barrel 12-bore gun, one anti-riot gun, grenades, ammunition and other war-like stores in general area Khujoirok Nala, northwest of Thumkhonglok on 31 December, whereas Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched a search operation in a jungle near Saiboh Village of Sangaikot Sub Division on 02 Jan 2025 that resulted in recovery of a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) Rifle, two Pistols and three 12-Bore Single Barrel Rifles.
Further in a series of operations in the general areas of Konchak (Imphal West), Leishangthem (Thoubal), and Laibol Khunou (Kangpokpi) between 30 Dec 24 and 03 Jan 25, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered a Carbine Machine Gun, a .303 Rifle (modified), four Single Barrel Rifles, seven Pistols, one Sniper Rifle (modified), two Single Bolt Action Rifle, a Sniper Rifle (Modified), a Improvised Long range Mortar, a 12-Bore Gun, ammunition and other war-like stores.
The recoveries of these stores and joint patrolling highlight the seamless cooperation between the Indian Army and other law enforcement agencies, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring the security and safety of the region.
