Husband should take care of his wife: ADC
World Population Day on the theme “Adopt family planning measures and write a new chapter of progress” was observed on Monday at MCH Building, Khliehriat CHC, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat.
The programme was organized by the Office of the District Medical anwd Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest of the programme, Jonathan Shylla, MCS, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat stressed on the negative impact of the exponential growth of the population and he highlighted issues such as maternal health and child health.
“The husband or a male partner should also take responsibility in caring for the wife or mother of the household”, he said while also stating that the mindset of the people can be changed through proper knowledge and information.
Earlier in the programme, Dr (Mrs) NP Suchiang, DIO, I/c East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat informrd the objective of the observation is to raise awareness about family planning, population control, and issues related to the rising population and its consequences on the environment.
She further stressed on the importance of family planning methods to control the ever-increasing population in the country.
She also stated that there is a need to reduce the Infant Mortality Rate and Maternal Mortality Ratio and the importance of birth spacing of 3 years between the first and second child that should be practiced in all households.
During the programme, awareness on Population Stabilization Fortnight, 2022, and Family Planning Methods was given by S. Dkhar, BEE, Khliehriat CHC and R. Dkhar, CHO, Khliehriat CHC. Others who also spoke were Dr. Wandap Bamon, Sub- Divisional Medical and Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat and Smt. Daphihi Passah, Adolescent Health Counsellor, NHM, Khliehriat.
