HYC demands creation of new C&RD block for Mawhati

The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) along with the traditional heads on Tuesday requested the Minister of Community and Rural Development, Sniawbhalang Dhar, for creation of a new C&RD Block for Mawhati area in Ri Bhoi district.

After handing over a memorandum to the minister for his intervention, HYC-Mawhati Circle general secretary Kitdor Shadap said that the creation of the new block will help to bring administration closer to the people.

“This would also help in bringing more development to the villages along the inter-state border with Assam,” he said.

Asked, Shadap informed that there are over 153 villages under the Mawhati area and people from these villages have to travel long distances to reach the nearest blocks at Umsning and Bhoirymbong.

“Due to this, very less developmental projects, including those sanctioned under the NREGS could be implemented as people have to travel 80 to 100 kilometers to get important paper works done at the block office,” he said.

The HYC leader informed that the minister has termed the demand as genuine and assured the delegation that the government will examine the proposal for necessary consideration.
