HYC demands creation of new ‘Khadsaw Phra’ district

SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has demanded the state government to upgrade Mairang civil sub division in West Khasi Hills into a full fledged district.

A delegation of the HYC Nongthliew Circle has also sought the immediate intervention of the Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh, who is also three-time legislator of Mairang, into the matter during a meeting on Saturday.

In a memorandum handed over to Lyngdoh,  the delegation has also suggested that the name of the new district should be ‘Khadsaw Phra District’s.

The HYC also reminded the leader of the other pending demands put forth before him before the 2018 Assembly polls.

These include upgradation of the Umthlong Nongthliew Secondary School into a higher secondary school, upgradation of Nongthliew PHC to a CHC and veterinary aid health centre to a dispensary health centre,  repairing of a road from Laitarted to Nonglyput and a road from Mawmaram Nongthliew to Umsaw Khwan.

The Speaker has assured the delegation to look into the matter.
