HYC demands designation of Maweit-Kulang-Nongjri to Nongstoin road as NH
SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has demanded the state government to connect Maweit-Kulang-Nongjri with Nongstoin, the district headquarter of West Khasi Hills and designate this 75km road as a national highway.
A delegation of the HYC West Khasi Hills District on Thursday also sought the intervention of the deputy chief minister in-charge of PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong into the need for widening and blacktopping of the different roads in the district.
President of the HYC-WKH Lumlang Kharsyiemlieh in the memorandum submitted to Tynsong urged the government to consider improving and widening of the two lane road from Sohpian to Nongstoin citing that the road is being used by thousands of vehicles to travel to district headquarter and state capital.
He also stressed the need to connect and designate the road from Nongstoin to Maweit-Kulang-Nongjri (75km) as national highway.
The HYC also demanded blacktopping of the Nongstoin to Nongkhnum island road, Nongstoin to Kynroh road, and repairing of Nongstoin Maweit-Sdaddkhar (60km) and Nongstoin to Rambrai road.
According to the Council, despite 42 years that the district was created yet it still lack behind especially in term of road connectivity as compared to other districts of the state.
