HYC detects 15 illegal migrant labourers
The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Monday apprehended 15 illegal migrant labourers in the city.
General Secretary of the HYC Mawlai Circle Bashan Lyngdoh Mawnai Iawphniaw informed that the labourers who are from West Bengal and Assam came by a night super bus at Rymbai Filling Station.
They were apprehended by the Mawiong Unit of the HYC when they were about to board three taxis arranged for dropping them to Mawdiangdiang area.
“The labourers were found entering the state illegally without any valid documents which include work permit, Covid report and police verification,” he said.
Iawphniaw also alleged that the labourers had claimed to have paid Rs 500 each at the Corona Screening Centre at Umling to avoid Covid testing.
“This shows that the Covid check gate at Umling has become a place of illegal collection and not for screening and testing people before they enter the state. The labourers further claimed that they were allowed to enter without any checking by the Infiltration checkgate at Byrni as well,” he said.
All the 15 illegal labourers were pushed back to their place of origin.
