HYC opposes NEHU VC’s rushed NEP, 2020 implementation
The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has demanded the state government not to hastily rush in adopting and implementing the new National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 in the state.
The Council has also petitioned to the state education department against the intention of the Vice Chancellor of the North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) to go ahead with the implementation of the NEP, 2020 in educational institutions in the state from this upcoming academic year 2023.
“The council expressed that such decisions taken by the Vice Chancellor of North Eastern Hills University to implement the NEP 2020 in the affiliated colleges of NEHU in the state , without taking in broad the views and consent of the educational institutions heads would only be detrimental in nature and lead to consequential loss against the intention and objectives sought to be achieved by the NEP 2020,” HYC education secretary Enlang Sawian said on Sunday.
He said that the council is not against the implementation of NEP 2020 as it is evident that the policy hold immense potential for transforming education system.
“But since educational institutions in the state lacks infrastructure and the need for more training faculty and also the details of the policy, its needs, feasibility and it’s likely impact are not clear to most, such decision taken without proper planning, realistic understanding , fair idea and consultation with all stakeholders – State Government, Communities, Parents, teachers , students the policy will not be achievable,” he asserted.
“The Council therefore demanded that the state Education dept should relook and not hastily rush for adopting and implementing the new NEP, 2020 in the state,” Sawian added.
