HYC threatens stir over alleged violation of reservation policy
The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has demanded the department of Agriculture to issue a fresh list for nominating students to pursue degree courses at the College of Agriculture, Manipur for the academic session 2020-21, under the state quota.
In a letter to the Director of Agriculture (R&T) on Monday, HYC has also demanded necessary clarification and correction of the nomination process.
The Directorate has nominated 14 students under the State quota for admission to 4 Years Degree Courses of B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture at College of Agriculture, Imphal.
The HYC said the names of 14 students were shown along with their Castes/Tribes/community they belonged to which include 4 students from Khasi-Jaintia ST Category, 7 Students from Garo ST Category, 2 Students from SC Category and 1 Student from Other Tribes.
Vide Corrigendum issued by the Directorate on August 29, 2 Students were shown to be from General Category instead of SC Category after objections were raised.
As per the Reservation Policy of the State, there shall be a reservation of 40% seats in favour of Khasi-Jaintias, 40% in favour of Garos, while 5% in favour of other tribes and remaining for general category.
HYC general secretary Roy Kupar Synrem said that it is evident that the Directorate has violated the provision of the Reservation policy by nominating only 4 students belonging to the Khasi-Jaintia category whereas 7 students were nominated from the Garo community.
“We strongly object to this sudden deviation of the Directorate from the Reservation Policy of the State…it is demanded that the nomination of students referred to above should be withdrawn forthwith and fresh list should be prepared by following the provisions of the reservation policy of the State so that our students are provided with the opportunity to pursue the said Courses,” Synrem said in the letter.
Meanwhile, the HYC has threatened to resort to agitations if the advertisement issued on this matter is not withdrawn.

If that’s the case then, Same thing must be applied to outer state Universities and Institutions too… No reserved seats from the student of EKH, WKH or any which comes under KH district. Here in Delhi we treat people of Shillong so nicely and like our guest. But since three years back I was there I have faced lots of racism even got threatened by KSU for being a Dkhar a non tribal person. I’m gin a post this at my Twitter handle and at other social media platform what actually happens.
