I am not anti-party, I am anti-procedure: says Adelbert Nongrum

Suspended Voice of the People Party (VPP) from North Shillong Adelbert Nongrum on Friday said he is not anti-party but is anti-procedures even as he asked the party leadership to directly expel him if they no longer trust him. 

“Please don’t mislead. I am not anti-party, I am very much anti-procedure. They have violated the constitution. Had I was anti-party, I would have come out and supporter other political parties. 

Before voting, I had declared that me and my family we will support prah. How can I be anti-party? Or is it just an excuse because you dislike me? If you no longer trust me, just expel me, no need to showcause or suspend, just expel me,” Nongrum told reporters. 

He said that the party’s decision to suspend him for a period of three years is seen as expelling him indirectly from the party.

Terming the decision as unacceptable, Nongrum said, “They (VPP leadership) said nobody is above the party but for be it party or constitution when it comes to issues, consciousness is far greater than written law. I am preparing. I don’t want to take anything about them but I just want to clarify to the people so that they know.” 

“I have fought five elections without comprising on the issues. I urge my supporters not to lose hope. Although the party has indirectly expelled me. Though I can no longer speak on behalf of the Voice of the People Party but I will continue to speak on behalf of the people and be the voice of the people. I am still thinking. After Easter Sunday, I will speak out once and for all,” he added.

Further, Nongrum also reminded the people that he has joined the VPP based on issue and never for getting a party ticket.

“I joined the party based on the agreement that it will take up the issue of state reservation policy. 

I urge the people that there is time for everything. It is for you to judge,” he said.

Accusing the VPP of violating the agreement, Nongrum said, “They have violated the promise. The state reservation policy is not issue of Adelbert Nongrum but it is the issue of youth. Why did the VPP submit its suggestion only on reservation policy relating to population. I asked them where is the academic reservation, where is the roster, which we demanded that it should be prospective and not retrospective? I have brought the issue of creamy and non-creamy layer. They don’t want me to speak on this issue.” 

“Why I decided to take up the issue because the agreement has been violated but I have not done anything wrong against the party,”he further maintained.
