I-League: Lajong fight back to hold Churchill Brothers in thrilling draw
Shillong Lajong overturned a two-goal deficit to earn a point against Churchill Brothers in the I-League 2024-25 at the SSA Stadium on November 24.
Churchill took control early, with Wayde Lekay opening the scoring in the 14th minute. Seven minutes later, Lekay struck again to double the lead.
Despite the setback, Lajong’s attacking spirit remained intact, spurred on by a passionate home crowd. Their persistence paid off in the 35th minute when Brazilian Renan Paulinho squared the ball from the right to compatriot Douglas Tardin at the top of the box. Tardin’s superb first touch, quick turn, and precise finish into the bottom corner reduced the deficit.
The equalizer came in the 50th minute through Renan Paulino De Souza. Both teams pressed for a winner, but the final quarter, though end-to-end, lacked finishing quality. A point apiece was a fair outcome.
Lajong’s next match is against Dempo SC at home on November 30 at 7 PM at the SSA Stadium.
