I-League: Shillong Lajong secures fourth straight home win
Shillong Lajong defeated Churchill Brothers by 2-0 in the I-League game on Wednesday at the SSA Stadium. The win takes Lajong to 3rd on the table just below Sreenidi Deccan on goal difference.
In the first half, Shillong Lajong’s attack were creating lots of chances and causing Churchill headaches on every attack. It was ironic that Shillong’s opener arrived right at the edge of halftime through Laiwang Bohham strike in the 45th minute from five yards. The home side had a deserved lead going into half time.
Lajong did not let go of the pressure they had Churchill under in the second half and doubled their lead with a calmly taken penalty by Renan Paulino in the 51st minute. The home side were guilty of their inability to extend the lead and were missing enough clear chances to extend their lead furthermore but it did not matter as they wrapped up a comfortable three points, and also picked up their first clean sheet of the season.
With this win, Lajong will look forward to their next game which is also the ‘North-East’ Derby against Aizawl FC on Sunday, 10th of December at 2pm in the SSA Stadium, Shillong.
