IED blast occurred at Laitumkhrah market, Shillong

Two persons were injured after an improvised explosive devise (IED) exploded at Laitumkhrah market, Shillong on Tuesday afternoon. 

The incident took place at around 1.30 pm when a powerful IED exploded near a tea shop situated in the parking lot at Laitumkhrah market. 

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger said immediately, bomb squad, crime scene unit and dog squad were sent to the place of occurence for collection of evidences. 

“During the preliminary investigation, it is ascertained that blast occurred due to IED,” Nongtnger said. 

The SP further informed that two persons sustained minor injuries on their persons during the incident. 

Further, wall of tea shop and window glasses of the adjacent building got damaged.

In this connection, a case is being registered at Laitumkhrah police station. 

Meanwhile, the SP also requested all citizens not to panic and if found any abandoned or suspected item in the locality, immediately inform to the nearest local police station or police control room Shillong at 0364-2222214/ 0364-2222215.
