IIT Guwahati and Miraclus Orthotech forge strategic partnership to revolutionize orthopaedic technology
The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Miraclus Orthotech Pvt. Ltd., a leading orthopaedic implant manufacturer, to drive cutting-edge research, development, and testing of advanced orthopaedic implants and instruments.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Rohit Sinha, Dean, R&D, IIT Guwahati, and Pranav Thaker, Managing Director of Miraclus Orthotech Pvt. Ltd, in the presence of distinguished faculty members and representatives from AIIMS Guwahati and Miraclus Orthotech Pvt. Ltd.
This landmark collaboration brings together IIT Guwahati’s research prowess and Miraclus Orthotech’s industry expertise to address critical challenges in the medical device sector. By leveraging advanced biomedical engineering, the partnership aims to create high-quality, efficient solutions to enhance patient care.
Speaking about the collaboration, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, emphasized, “At IIT Guwahati, we are committed to transforming research into real-world solutions that benefit society. This partnership with Miraclus Orthotech is a crucial step in setting new benchmarks in medical device innovation.”
The MoU outlines four major focus areas- designing next-generation orthopaedic implants and instruments with enhanced precision and durability, utilizing IIT Guwahati’s state-of-the-art facilities to ensure global quality standards for medical devices, conducting workshops, training programs, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to equip students and researchers with practical experience in medical device technology and co-developing patents and publishing research findings to propel advancements in the field.
Expressing enthusiasm about the partnership, Pranav Thaker, managing director, Miraclus Orthotech, said, “IIT Guwahati has been a frontrunner in technological innovation. By integrating academic excellence with industry insights, this collaboration aims to deliver transformative solutions to the orthopaedic sector.”
This MoU reinforces IIT Guwahati’s commitment to interdisciplinary research and impactful industry-academia collaborations. Aligned with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, the partnership will accelerate medical device innovation, reduce reliance on imports, and enhance accessibility to high-quality, affordable healthcare solutions.
Looking ahead, IIT Guwahati and Miraclus Orthotech plan to set up a specialized facility equipped with advanced prototyping and testing tools for orthopaedic implants and instruments. This centre will act as a hub for interdisciplinary research, integrating expertise from biomedical engineering, materials science, and clinical practice.
The collaboration will also introduce industry-academia exchange programs, enabling researchers and students to work closely with industry professionals to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications. Additionally, a roadmap for regulatory approvals and commercialization will be developed to facilitate the smooth transition of innovative medical devices from the lab to the market.
