Illegal transport of coal continues in GH: BJP
BJP vice president Bernard N Marak has alleged that illegal transportation of coal is continuing in Garo Hills with the involvement of political leaders.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Marak said, “Illegal transportation of coal continues in Garo Hills and political leaders are openly involved in corruption by ravaging the Garo Hills roads.”
Stating that the court’s order on load limit is being violated openly in Garo Hills, Marak said this came to light after BJP leaders from Garo Hills visited the West, East and North Garo Hills on February 8, to take stock of the improvements of NH 51 and NH 62 roads.
He said the roads connecting Tura and Guwahati are being repaired by the PWD department after the BJP members repaired the pot holes between Tura and Jengjal.
Marak however said the roads are better but the over loaded trucks running on these roads are damaging the roads the day after the work is done.
In Tura, over loaded trucks plying through Tura at night have damaged the road near Civil Surgeon office where cracks are visible and it has become an accident prone area.
In NH 62, the over loaded trucks which are seen parked near the highway covered with tarpaulins.
“These trucks are carrying coal not less than 20 metric tonnes which violates the honorable Court’s order and they are plying freely without challan and destroying the newly repaired roads,” he said.
