ILP resolution in Centre’s court: CM
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said the Centre is examining the state government’s resolution for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to keep check on the unabated influx into the state.
At the same, he also informed that the state government is examining the comments and suggestions of the Governor, Satya Pal Malik on the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security (Amendment) Bill, 2020.
“As of now the government of India is examining the matter (ILP resolution) and we are yet to get a clear direction as to where this will go…,” Sangma said while replying to a short duration discussion moved by Congress legislator Mayralborn Syiem in the Assembly.
Recalling how the demand for ILP has affected the state in preceding years, the chief minister said different resolutions were brought in the House but could not be passed due to unknown reasons.
He said it was only last year that the MDA government had passed the resolution urging the Centre to include Meghalaya in the ILP list.
“It was a historic resolution based on which we have moved the government of India and met the concerned minister (for necessary intervention),” Sangma said.
On the status of the amendment of the MRSSA, which was sent to the Governor for his approval, the chief minister informed that the newly appointed Governor has recently sent back the amendment Bill to the government along with comments and suggestions.
“Now we are examining the comments and suggestions of the governor. We are working in that aspect but it is important to note that the process has started,” he said.
