IMD issues orange alert warning
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the states of Meghalaya and Assam on August 27 with chances of heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.6 to 204.4mm).
The IMD also predicted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 28.
The IMD stated that the potential impact will be localised flooding.
As a safety measure, the IMD stated that people should avoid areas prone to water logging and to stay away from vulnerable structures.
The Orange/Amber indicates an alert for people to be prepared and it is usually issued as a potential warning of extremely bad weather which will likely disrupt road, rail, air and even power outages.
