Independence Day celebrated in Jowai
Jowai joined the rest of the country to celebrate the 74th Independence Day at Jrisalein Playground, Chutwakhu, participated by few officials following the guidelines and other health protocols.
Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills Garod LSN Dykes unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute to the tune of the National Anthem.
Delivering his speech, DC Garod LSN Dykes extended his greetings to all the people of the district and also acknowledged the service and contribution made by the frontline workers of COVID-19, including doctors, nurses, health workers and policemen who have put their lives at risk to protect the masses. He highlighted the steps taken by the government to contain the spread of the pandemic and various activities being taken by various Government departments.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and as per protocol the general public this year were barred from attending the official program at Jrisalein Playground but they were given an opportunity to witness the celebration broadcasted live in the Local Channel and other social media networks. It may also be mentioned that as Flag hoisting was permitted in localities, almost all localities in Jowai Town hoisted the National Flag in their respective localities with minimal participants with the SOPs keeping intact.
