Indian government provides free mental health services to all states
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has taken a giant step forward in providing free mental health services to the entire country through the Ayushman Bharat – Health and Wellness Centre (AB-HWCs).
All the states have been given operational guidelines for the treatment of mental, neurological, and substance use disorders at Ayushman Bharat – Health and Wellness Centres. As of March 22nd, 2021, there are 70,221 HWCs in operation throughout the country.
On mental, neurological, and substance use (MNS) disorders, there are 45 national trainers and 100 state trainers. 27 experts are currently undergoing training to become national level trainers who will train state-level trainers in the rollout of PHC Medical Officer training.
