Inspection conducted on unregulated seating of hawkers in Laitumkhrah
The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police (Traffic) conducted an inspection in Laitumkhrah Main Market, Shillong on Saturday.
The inspection was joined by representatives of the Dorbar Shnong Laitumkhrah and the Meghalaya & Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors Association, together with the EE Shillong Municipal Board and the EE PWD Roads
It was carried out in view of reports and complaints received of congestion caused by unregulated seating of hawkers on the roads and pavements, obstruction to pedestrian access as well as haphazard parking of vehicles on the roadside.
The inspection was conducted along the main road of Laitumkhrah to examine the situation in detail.
Grievances were heard and reported by residents, shop owners, vendors and other stakeholders of the area on many matters.
After noting down all the observations and inputs, and identifying key spots of reported obstructions and violations.
The District Administration will be working with the other concerned departments and involved parties on an inclusive and holistic plan to ease the concerns of the public.
