Intensified diarrhoea control forthnight launched in East Jaintia Hills
The Intensified Diarrhoea Control Forthnight (IDCF) 2020 was launched today the 16th of November, 2020 at Sutnga CHC, East Jaintia Hills District. The programme was organized by the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District. Dr. R. Pyrtuh, BDO, Saipung C&RD Block was the Chief Guest of the programme and Dr. Dominic Shylla, DM &HO, East Jaintia Hills District as the Guest of Honour. The aim of the programme is to intensify efforts to reduce child deaths due to diarrhoea.
While addressing on the occasion, the Chief Guest Dr. R. Pyrtuh, BDO, Saipung C&RD Block said that the objective of this programme is to provide medication such as ORS and Zinc tablets for children under 5 years of age to prevent diarrhoea. He also informed that the ASHA and Anganwadi workers will be visiting door to door to distribute these medicines and he urged the parents to consult the ASHA workers or visit the Anganwadi Centres for treatment incase their child has diarrhoea.
The Chief Guest further stressed on the need for behavioral change and he stated that practicing healthy habits like hand washing, consuming safe drinking water, proper nutrition and maintaining personal hygiene and sanitation are the key to prevent the occurrence of diarrhoea. He also urged the ASHA and Anganwadi workers to keep up their dedication in delivering the best health care services for the children and the people of the District.
Dr. Dominic Shylla, DM &HO, East Jaintia Hills District in his speech urged the gathering to take part in government health programmes organized from time to time so as to gain knowledge and awareness and to get the necessary health care services for their children.
Other who also spoke during the programme includes Dr. (Mrs) R. Toi, M&HO, I/C Sutnga CHC, who gave a brief awareness and overview on IDCF, 2020, Shri. Ariston Dhar, DPM, NHM, East Jaintia hills District who delivered the welcome address and Dr.(Mrs) E.L Kharmutee, DIO Office of the DM&HO, East Jaintia Hills District who offered the vote of thanks.
During the programme, ORS packets were also distributed to the children and parents present at the gathering.
