Interactive session held in Jowai to help farmers increase farm income

An Interactive programme with producer groups under Farmer Collectivisation for Up-scaling Production and Marketing System (FOCUS) was held today at District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai.

The Chief Guest for the Programme was PK Boro, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Project Director DRDA, West Jaintia Hills. Dr. D.I Kjam, District Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Officer, C Najiar, Assistant Director District Horticulture Officer, Smt. S.E Kynjing, Shri. B. Niang officers from the Horticulture and Agriculture department, Jowai and Chanky Lyngdoh, Managing Director Chankylliang Development Society, NGO’s partners.

The Programme was also attended by producers’ groups from the three C&RD Blocks -Amlarem, Thadlaskein and Laskein.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Project Director DRDA PK Boro encouraged the farmers to make use of the assistance provided by the state government in a productive manner, to upscale their knowledge and to carry out farming work without any hesitation.

He requested the NGO partners SURE and Chankylliang Development Society to guide and train the farmers on how to enhance their productivity.

Starwell Paduna, Assistant Manager, Amlarem Block in his presentation on the concept of FOCUS (Farmer Collectivisation for Up-scaling Production and Marketing System) highlighted the objectives of the programme. He informed that under this program Rs. 5000 will be provided to the registered farmers and the financial assistance provided is not a loan but an assistance to help farmers to upscale their farming and income. He also informed that under Amlarem C&RD Block there are 48 Producer Groups, Laskein C & RD 52 Producer groups and under Thadlaskein 68 Producer Groups.

Dr. D.I Kjam, District Veterinary Animal & Husbandry Officer, Chanky Lyngdoh, Managing Director, Chankyliang, Development Society and a Representative from SURE also spoke on the occasion encouraging the farmers to make use of the opportunity to boost their products.

Two members from the producer’s groups were also given an opportunity to express their thoughts.

During the programme cheques were handed over to the selected Producer groups.

Sywell Lyngdoh, District Project Manager, District Basin Development Unit, West Jaintia Hills District presided over the programme. Welcome speech Mrs. Muhor Ksiar Syngkon, Assistant Manager, District Project Manager and the vote of thanks was delivered by Smt. Erniki K.Shylla, Assistant Manager, Laskein Block.
